Three Senegalese peacekeepers killed in West Darfur ambush - PUNCH

Three Senegalese peacekeepers with the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur were killed on Sunday when a group of gunmen attacked them near the Sudanese border with Chad, the mission said.
UNAMID said the attack occurred when a UNAMID Formed Police Unit detail, escorting a water convoy from Geneina town to the UNAMID regional headquarters in West Darfur, was ambushed by the gunmen.
“Three Senegalese peacekeepers were killed and one injured. The assailants hijacked one vehicle, which was later recovered seven kilometres from the scene,” UNAMID said in a statement received by PANA in Khartoum.
It said the attack occurred on the same road, where a UNAMID patrol was ambushed in October last year.
It said, “UNAMID Joint Special Representative Mohamed Ibn Chambas is deeply saddened by the death of the peacekeepers.
“Describing this attack as a grave criminal act, he condemned it in the strongest possible terms.”
