The panel of enquiry was inaugurated in April this year by Governor Olusegun Mimiko with the mandate to determine the appropriateness of location of filling stations, interface with owners on approval and make recommendations to the government.
Delivering its report to the governor yesterday, the panel’s Chairman, Mr. Dare Aragbaye, permanent secretary in the state transport ministry, said his panel discovered 311 filling stations illegally established out which 81 should be sealed off.
While the report identified 68 stations as appropriately located, it stated that 136 are to receive minor adjustments while 34 others would be converted for other uses.
Mr. Aragbaye thanked Governor Mimiko for the opportunity given to members of the panel to serve.
Receiving, the governor who frowned at indiscriminate citing of filling stations in every nook and cranny of major cities across the state, said it was the responsibility of any responsible government to guarantee the safety of lives and property of its citizenry.
