Opinion: The dire implications of Nigeria’s politics of money
You
will agree with me that as it is today only a person who has money can
contest except very few people like General Muhammadu Buhari.
I will start this piece by giving a brief
story on the kind of DEMOCRACY I expected. I started reading newspapers
daily as far back as my JSS3 thanks to my dad when I was transferred
from FGC Azare to FGC Maiduguri as a day student.
I will say I was so current and had interest in National affairs. I
was a science student but realising my interest is more on Social
Science, I took Government and History in place of Physics and chemistry
in WAEC. I started politics in SS3 where I was the President of the
then Bauchi State Students Association now Bauchi / Gombe FGC Maiduguri
chapter. I first did Diploma before a Degree in Economics (UNIMAID). I
was elected Financial Secretary Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA)
UNIMAID chapter in level 1 where I was also the Deputy Editor of the
Magazine we published (Voice of the JEWEL), Auditor General, Nigerian
Economics Students Association (NESA) UNIMAID chapter in my 3rd year as
well as Secretary, Sales committee (SUG) UNIMAID. Also in my 3rd year, I
was elected the first male Treasurer (SUG) UNIMAID where I was
chairman, finance and planning committee as well as member of
